Mostek is accredited with inventing DRAM address multiplexing after introducing the MK4096 x 1 bit DRAM in 1973. Address multiplexing was a revolutionary invention which placed Mostek as a leader in the DRAM field until other companies began reverse-engineering then cloning its products. Mostek also mastered the international market for telecommunication products for many years and became known as a leading semiconductor fabrication house in the 1970's. Mostek negotiated deals that gave it second sourcing rights to the Intel 8086 designs and the Motorola 68000. These microprocessors became part of the cores of IBM PC and Apple Computers. In 1979, it merged with United Technologies, which then became part of STMicroelectronics in 1987. Successful spin offs of Mostek include Cyrix in 1988 and Micron Technology in 1978
